The course examines the internet as a complex communication environment where new language practices, cultural codes, and ways of creating meaning are formed. Social media, memes, viral videos, online communities, and digital trends are analyzed as texts of contemporary culture that both reflect and shape social ideas, identities, and ways of communication. During the course, we explore how language norms change in the digital environment, how new words and discourse practices appear, and how visual and textual elements combine to create new cultural meanings. Special attention is given to the analysis of memes, viral content, online jokes, digital narratives, and subcultures as forms of modern cultural expression. We will examine not only what spreads on the internet, but also why some formats become viral, how internet humor works, how collective meanings are formed, and how digital media influence language and culture. The course develops critical thinking, skills of digital discourse analysis, and the ability to interpret cultural codes of online communication. The aim of the course is to develop a systematic understanding of the internet as a dynamic cultural environment where language, symbols, and meanings constantly change and become important tools of communication, identity, and creativity.
